Prayer for our Promenade

Promenade des Anglais, 2012

For our place of peace, we pray,
Promenade des Anglais.

The laughing days of French sunshine,
Tonight by terror haunted.
Pebbled beaches and melting ice-creams,
Now stained by death and her allies.
Once a playground of people, and life,
In seconds buried by sin contrived.
Our symbol of friendship and harmony,
Today a distant whisper of humanity.

But we will not hate,
To hate is to revenge.
Neither will we deal in fear,
To fear is to lose all hope.
We will rise up in peace,
In peace we will triumph.
We will show love,
To be human is to live in love.

For our place of peace, we pray,
Promenade des Anglais.
